Janet Adams (McGarity) McGarity

Janet Adams McGarity 78, of Athens, Georgia, died peacefully December 28, 2016 surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was born May 1, 1938, in Elberton, Georgia, the daughter of W.C. and Johnie McGarity. She was the oldest of three siblings. She received her bachelor's degree from Emory at Oxford Georgia and Brenau University and her Master's degree from The University of Georgia. She was the purchasing and volunteer program manager for Saint Mary's Hospital gift shop for 20 years. She is survived by her daughter Angela Pope of Watkinsville, GA; son Mark (Julie) Pope of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter Jenifer (Boon) Simmons of Gainesville, GA; son Will Pope of Raleigh, NC,; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, sister Jean (Frank) Whitaker of Mission Tx; and sister Judy of Athens, GA. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship located 780 Timothy Road, this Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 3 pm. Burial will take place at Bowman City Cemetery.
