Jane Marie Maxwell Wilson, age 64, peacefully passed away at her home in Colbert on April 22, 2013.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, in the sanctuary of Lexington Presbyterian Church, 140 East Church Street, Lexington.
Jane was born in Athens on May 7, 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert "Bobby" Caldwell Maxwell and Marie Nix Maxwell, and loving and dedicated former husband, Felmet Nicholas Wilson. She was a lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Lisa" Lynne, and husband, J.W. King Jr.; her son, Robert Brian, and wife, Mallory Dixon Wilson; her two beautiful grandchildren, Walker McClain Wilson and Olivia Rachael Wilson; her sister, Barbara Maxwell Riddle, and husband, Paul; along with one aunt, Winifred Maxwell Martin, and husband, Bill; one uncle, Dr. David Maxwell, and wife, Diana; as well as one niece and nephew, and numerous cousins.
Mrs. Wilson attended Oglethorpe County Schools, where she was a majorette and was the first to use fire batons as part of football halftime shows. She graduated with honors in 1966 and went on to the University of Georgia to pursue her Bachelor of Animal Science & Husbandry degree as well as her hopes of becoming a veterinarian. She later worked as a veterinary technician with Maxwell Veterinary, on Lexington Road, and as a research lab technician with the National Cancer Research Institute through the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. She adored animals from childhood and her lifelong dream was to help them have happy and loving lives.
Mrs. Wilson was raised in the faith at Lexington Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong member. She was an Elder and Clerk of Session for many years. Most recently, she was involved in several meetings regarding the historical preservation of the church and cemetery.
