Jane Weatherly Long, 90, a native Athenian passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
Born April 1, 1920, Jane was a life long resident of Athens. She was preceded by her parents, the late Mattie Lou Tuck and Rupert Price Weatherly, also of Athens. She was also preceded by her beloved first cousin, Louis C. Trousdale, who she truly adored.
Jane was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church. She took great pride in the history and culture she learned as a resident of Athens . She also held a great love for the many summers she spent with Gump, Lynn and so many others at their Seed Lake cabin in the north Georgia mountains. That was truly Jane's heaven on earth.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ernest E. "Gump" Long, her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Bill McDonald, and three grandchildren who she loved dearly: Katie Foster, Max McDonald and Will McDonald. Over the past few years, Jane grew very close to her wonderful caregiver, Barbara Denson, who has helped Jane and Gump enjoy a great quality of life in their home. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude, love and thanks to Barbara for all that she has, and continues to do.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Jane's wonderful life can be made to the American Heart Association, or the charity of one's choosing.
A graveside service to honor Jane's life will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
