James Earl Wilkie

James Earl “Pop” Wilkie, 93, passed away November 23, 2020.

A native of Cowarts, NC, he was a son of the late James Daniel Wilkey and Theodocia Hooper Wilkey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Muriel Barrett Wilkie.

Mr. Wilkie was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and the United States Navy. He graduated from Clemson University in 1956 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. He retired as a GS-15 from the Federal Aviation Administration and was licensed as a professional engineer in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, New York and the Panama Canal zone.

Mr. Wilkie was a member of Canon Baptist Church in Canon, GA. He served the mission field over the years and traveled extensively throughout his lifetime, having visited 165 countries.

A Celebration of Life will be Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:00AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST, with Revs. Roger Hardy and Eric Buffington officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, William Daniel Wilkie and Lynn Devereaux Wilkie of Bogart; grandchildren, Pamela Lauren Wilkie of Athens, Benjamin Daniel Wilkie of Fort Benning, Columbus, GA, Preston Devereaux Wilkie of Lillington, NC, Ronald Mark Vickers (Sheila) of North Charleston, SC; Amy Lynn Pennington (Michael) of St. Augustine, FL; and multiple great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Allen of Cherokee, NC and Lucy Weaver of Gastonia, NC.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, GA is in charge of arrangements.
