James Gordon Whitestone, Sr. age 79 of Athens, Georgia, died Saturday November 2, 2013 peacefully in his home.
Jim was born in Alexandria, Virginia on August 15, 1934 to Robert and Isabel Whitestone. He married Barbara Hockett in 1953 and lived in Alexandria, Virginia until 1978 when they moved to Athens, Georgia. Jim worked for Fruit Growers Express in Alexandria, Portec in Winder, and retired from the Loef Company, Athens, Georgia.
Jim will be remembered by his many friends for his keen sense of humor, his honesty, and his love of fishing. Those closest to him know that he remained here with us as long as he could without his sweet Barbara. He leaves behind a legacy; a lifetime full of love and laughter, and a host of friends and family who will cherish his memory and his wisdom forever.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara; his parents, his brothers, Skip and Donald Whitestone, his daughter Susan, and his grandchildren Lauren and Braden. He is survived by his brothers and their wives; Sonny (Angie) Whitestone, David (Pat) Whitestone and his sister Isabel Hibberd, His children; Cindy Bonner, James Whitestone, Jr.; Jeanne and Ron Elliott, Sara and Dwayne Brownlee, Linda and Marty Rose, and Bill White, whom he loved like a son; his grandchildren; Nathan, James (Kim), Missie (Teddy), Erin, Stephanie, Lindsey Kate (Robbie), David (Carli ), Gracie, Lauren Marie (Darrell), Ashley, Michael, Matthew; and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 100 Janis Drive, Athens, GA 30606.
