Dr. James Warren Smith, 78, husband of Gladys Ann Brinton Smith, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 26, 2021. Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Warren J Smith and Kathryn McCann Smith.
Dr. Smith received his Bachelors and Master of Science from Penn State University and his PhD in Dairy Science from the University of Maryland. His career in Dairy Science took him from Pennsylvania to the University of New Hampshire and eventually to the University of Georgia where he worked with programs like the Georgia Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA), and 4H as a Cooperative Extension Dairy Scientist. He retired from UGA in 2004 and enjoyed his retirement landscaping the yard, playing with his grandchildren, watching Penn State football, and reading the Bible. He attended Living Hope Church Athens.
Survivors include his wife Ann, three sons and their spouses: Doug (Lyana) Smith, Dan (Katie Gollner-Smith) Smith and David (Briana) Smith; brothers: Robert Smith and Richard Smith and six grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, Jonathan, Chloe, Andrew, and Caitlin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 11AM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the funeral home.
