Watkinsville - James Virgil Tiller, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008.
Born in Bostwick, Ga. on June 2, 1924, he was the son of James Coile Tiller and Carrie Tiller. He was a veteran of the Navy U.S. Pensacola, Seaman Second Class. Mr. Tiller was retired from the grading business. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church for 69 years, where he served as a Deacon and was given the title of Deacon Emeritus in 1996. Mr. Tiller also served as a Sunday School teacher and worked with the youth of the church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne Jones Tiller; daughter, Joy Christian and husband, Cleve; daughter, Robbie Wilson; son, James Eddy Tiller and wife, Debbie; son, Ricky Tiller and wife, Regina; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, December 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Golden Boys Sunday School Class and Deacons of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m.
