James Harrold Tiller, 81, died April 20, 2010.
Mr. Tiller was a son of the late J. W. and Rosa Noell Tiller and was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Patrick of Charlotte, NC, Doris Pierce of Athens, GA and a brother, Vivian Tiller of Decatur, GA.
Mr. Tiller retired from Southland Life Insurance/Life of Georgia in 1991 after forty years of service. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was also a member of several insurance groups, past president of the Athens Civitan Club, as well as Clarke County School Advisory Board. Mr. Tiller obtained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST, with Rev. Don Leaptrott officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Tiller of Athens, GA; two sons, Sherwood Michael "Mike" Tiller and his wife, Kay of Watkinsville, GA and William Terry "Buck" Tiller and his wife Tammy of Athens, GA; five grandchildren, Sherwood Michael Tiller and his wife, Jama of Maryville, TN, Joy Tiller Westbrook and her husband, Carlton of Baldwin, GA, Morgan Tiller Bennett and husband, D. J. of Winterville, GA, Ansley Tiller of Athens, GA, Douglas "Doug" Tiller of Watkinsville, GA; two great granddaughters, Amelia Westbrook and Sarah Westbrook, both of Baldwin, GA; brother, Wayne Tiller of LaMirada, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
