James Emslie Thomson

March 23, 1930 — March 6, 2013

Mr. James Emslie Thomson, age 82 of Athens passed away Wednesday, March 06, 2013. Mr. Thomson was born in Brooklyn, NY to Victor and Catherine Forrester Thomson on March 23, 1930. Mr. Thomson served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for 30 years with the United States Department of Agriculture as a research leader. Mr. Thomson will always be remembered for being a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He had a passion for music and sailing, and was an avid sportsman and historian.
Mr. Thomson was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; Marie Bontempo Thomson, children; Steven James Thomson, David Scott Thomson (Anne), and Carol Statella-Harris (Reid); two grandchildren Scott Gordon Thomson, and Jennifer Anne Thomson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 7 until 9 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Athens First United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11 AM with the Rev. Martha Aenchbacher officiating. Interment will be held at Oconee Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donation be made to The University of Georgia School of Music Scholarship Fund.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
