James Charles Thompson, 60, of Athens, GA, passed away on April 26, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He received a Bachelors Degree in social work at UGA and worked for the Department of Family and Children Services for over 20 years. He was a faithful member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Athens, GA. He was preceded in death his mother, Barbara Griffith Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Clarice Flynt Thompson, daughter, Cindi Powell, step-children, Marie Blount and husband Casey Blount, Benjamin Drane and wife Susie Drane, and Chris Drane and wife Millie Drane, father, Charlie Goss, sister, Linda Root and husband Tom Root, five grandchildren, Brittany and Tiffany Blount, Adriana Baughman, Ashton Drane and Joshua Powell and one great grandchild, Jacob Firster. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 4PM at Chapelwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Moeller officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Daily Bread or the Athens Homeless Shelter.
