James Daniel Strawser

James Daniel Strawser, 74, of Athens , died Saturday, August 13, 2011. He was born on May 24, 1937, in Rossville, Il., to the late Ora Eldrew and Loah Mae Bowles Strawser. Jim studied photography at Southern Illinois University following his service in the United States Air Force. Jim and Ann moved to Athens , Ga. , in 1972, where he worked for the University of Georgia as an agricultural photographer for the Co-operative Extension Service. His photography was widely published and displayed in numerous art exhibitions. In retirement he stayed active with his photography and most enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his beloved wife Ann.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8, Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Lord & Stephens East , and the funeral service will be held 2PM, Thursday, Aug. 18, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Oconee Hill cemetery.

James is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Ann" Patteson Strawser; three sons: Patrick (Tonya) Strawser, Philip (Heather) Strawser, and Paul (Allison) Strawser; siblings: Virginia (Frank) Sheffield and Harold (Sylvia) Strawser; and grandchildren Gavin Strawser and Anna Strawser.

Flowers are appreciated, but the family encourages donations to First Christian Church 2nd Century Project, 268 E. Dougherty, Athens GA , 30601 .
