JACKSON, JAMES "JIM", 88, of Athens
Died at home surrounded by love, Friday, February 17. Jim was born in Rochester, NY in December 1928, son of Jack and Alice Jackson. Jim Jackson was preceded in death by sisters Alice Hecker and Gwen Osborn.
His family relocated to St. Petersburg, FL., in 1942. He graduated valedictorian, from Aikin School, as Class President. Jim earn his degree from The University of West Virginia. He was proud Mountaineer.
A veteran of the Korean War, Jim served in the United States Air Force. He was a recipient of The Purple Heart, as well as member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also member of the American Legion.
During his life, Jim's other loves included serving as a Free Mason, Mt. Vernon Lodge 22, Athens, GA., and a Scottish Rite Mason, for more than fifty years. In addition, Jim was a member of Royal Arch and Yaarab Shriners. Furthermore, he was a strong supporter of the Shriner's Burn Institute, Cincinnati, OH.; Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital, Atlanta, Ga and the Masonic Children's Home, Macon, GA.
Jim married Linda Montgomery in April 1960. They have celebrated more than fifty-six years of love and happiness. He is survived by his children; Alicia and Guiseppe Caravita di Sirignano, London, England., Lori, Athens, GA., Drew and JC, Philadelphia, PA., and his best buddy, Miles. Jim is also survived by his nieces and nephews. The family have been blessed to share so much love and adventure. He was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, Athens, GA.
Jim's Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, February 25th at 1:00 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home (East), 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in memory of James Jackson to The Scottish Rite Foundation (Scottish Rite Children's Hospital) 1690 Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309..
