James Simmons Jr

James Simmons, Jr. passed away January 17, 2009.
A native of Fairmount, Georgia, he was a son of the late Mary McCallum and James Thomas Simmons, Sr., and was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Simmons.
In 1961, he began working at Athens Seed Co. and continued until 1978, at which time he became co-owner. Until the time of his death, Mr. Simmons continued to work at Athens Seed Lawn and Garden in Watkinsville, GA.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST. Interment will be private.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Simmons; children, Heather Simmons of Greshamville, GA, James Thomas Simmons, III and wife, Carol, of Carlton; brother, John Simmons of Commerce, GA; sister, Esther Ruth Simmons of Smyrna, GA; grandson, James Thomas Simmons, IV; great grandson, James Thomas Simmons, V; longtime business partner, James Willis.
Employees of Athens Seed Company will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice or Georgia Seedsman Association.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
