James R. Self, age 75, passed away May 3, 2012. He had battled multiple sclerosis for thirty-three years and lung cancer most recently.

Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Linda Arthur Self, a dear brother, Roy J. Smith and many nieces and nephews.
As a young man he entered the Navy and later returned to Athens where he eventually worked as an assistant superintendent in commercial construction until he decided to start a small business in 1973.
