James Cameron “Jim” Porter, 76, died Thursday, May 16, 2019.
Born in Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Walter Porter and Beulah Jenette Porter and brother to the late Janice Olson. Jim was a graduate of Purdue University and University of Baltimore where he received degrees in Entomology and Business. He served in the US Army, was an Entomologist with Rose Exterminating/Pest Control, was the owner of Porter Art Studio for 20 years and upon moving to Georgia in 2017, he was named the Artist in Residence for the town of High Shoals. He was a part time opera singer and during his time in the Army was a featured soloist in the US Army Field Band.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Porter; children: Becky (David) MacPherson of Seattle, WA, Karen (Peter) Mrozinski of Cumming, GA, Eric (Leah) Jensen of Monroe, GA; brother: Dan Waldo Porter and Charles Walter Porter, II both of Maryland; grandchildren: Cameron, Clare, Logan, Allison, Cooper and Campbell.
A private services will be held at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
