James Lloyd Pittman, 83, died Friday, August 2, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Bishop, Georgia.

From his birth on October 17,1935, to his death, James lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, and spending time outdoors. James had an uncanny ability to reach people in a positive way through his impromptu joke telling and stories. James enjoyed helping people and rescuing animals. He generously gave to others while living life modestly and appreciatively.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sandra Pittman Lally (Timothy) and Brenda Pittman Elwell (Kevin), from Bishop, Georgia, and grandchildren, Lacy Elizabeth Lally, James Vincent Lally, Alan Michael Elmore, Julia Suzanne Elmore, and Julia Reynolds Elwell.  His brother, Randall Hilton Pittman, Nashville, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews, as well as, many special friends from the Spring Warrior Community.

Preceding him in death his son, James Alan Pittman; his parents, Willis Daniel Pittman and Merle Walker Pittman; his brothers Travis Laverne Pittman, Wendell Edward Pittman and sister Karen Pittman Rowe; his former wife and friend, Betty Hayes Pittman.

As a young man Mr. Pittman was enlisted in the army and spent time in Germany.  He was a longtime resident of Valdosta, Georgia where he owned a NAPA auto parts store. He was known for helping many stranded motorists along the highway.  He later retired and purchased Spring Warrior Fish Camp in Perry, Florida.  He enjoyed many years operating the fish camp while making repeat customers and cherished friendships.

He will be remembered for his generosity, his quick wit, his genuine love for people and animals, and of course, his dart throwing championships.
