Athens, GA - James D. Maxwell, 100, of Athens, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Ida Cox Maxwell, parents, Clifford and Hazel Johnson Maxwell and two sisters, Ladonna Maxwell and Doris Bales. Mr. Maxwell retired from Westinghouse and served In the US Army during WWII. Following retirement he and Mrs. Maxwell moved to Sun City, AZ where they lived for 30 years before moving to Athens, GA in 2006. Survivors include his daughter, Pat (Rev. Dan) May of Athens and son Dr. Robert Maxwell (Karen) of Ft. Meyers FL, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Mr. Maxwell was beloved by all that knew him, especially by his family. The family wishes to thank St. Mary's Highland Hills, St. Mary's Hospice and Arbor Terrace Assisted Living for their wonderful care. To celebrate his life, a funeral service will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 at Lord and Stephens West Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Dan May, Rev. Gordon Rhoden and Major Jack Engle will officiate. Great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lima, Ohio at a later date. Lord and Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
