Bishop - James A. Maxey, 94, passed away at Family Life Enrichment Center on October 22, 2006. Mr. Maxey resided on Monroe Hwy., Statham, GA.
He was the son of the late Ben and Kitty Jones Maxey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Lewis Maxey; sisters, Martha Lou Maxey and Sarah Hammond; brother, George Lewis Maxey; and special niece, Sonya M. Baker.
Mr. Maxey was a school bus driver in Oconee County for 40 years and worked at Athena Carpet Mill, Bogart, GA.
Mr. Maxey was the oldest living member of Union Christian Church, Watkinsville, and served many years as a deacon and an elder.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Latrelle Maxey of Jackson, GA; his nieces husband, Joe Baker and their children; Tommy and Nichole Baker, Tonya and David Simpson, and Timmy James Baker, all of Conyers, GA; nephew Joe Maxey and family of Albany, GA; step-son and wife, Robert and Ann Maxey of Atlanta; and a number of cousins with whom he was very close.
Funeral services will be at Union Christian Church on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 3PM with visitation held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Union Christian Church Cemetery Fund, Watkinsville, GA or Family Life Enrichment Centers, High Shoals, GA.
