James E. "Jim" Mason, 56, died April 9, 2010.
He was born in Fulton, Ky., but was a native of Athens, Ga. He was the youngest son of Wallace and Geraldine Mason. Jim and his family moved to Athens in 1955, where he attended Athens High School before joining the Army in 1971. In 1972, he married the former Susan Colson, who preceded him in death in 2005. After leaving the Army in 1974, Jim and Susan moved to Hull where they raised their two daughters, Heather and Melissa. Jim went to work with C. C. Dickson Heating and Air Company in 1988 and was currently the branch manager of the Gainesville location.
Jim was loved and respected by everyone who knew him, especially his three grandchildren who called him "Rat." Jim loved his family and always put them first. They will always love and miss him.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST with Rev. Jim Stuchell officiating. Entombment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his two daughters, Heather Jenkins of Hull and Melissa (Brett) Self of Statham; brother, Billy Mason of Colbert; three grandchildren, Austin Sailors, Alyssa Sailors and Cody Self.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
