James Andrew Marshall, 80, husband of Linda Nix Marshall, died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his residence. Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Will Henry Marshall and Sue B. Elder Marshall. James was a graduate of Oconee County High School and received a BBA in Real Estate and a BS in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia. Following his graduation from UGA he opened one of the first Real Estate Companies in the Athens area in 1966, Marshall Reality Company. In addition to his Real Estate Company, James owned and operated a large farm. He was a former Oconee County Commissioner and former Chairman for the Board of Education for Oconee County. James was a member of Antioch Christian Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include one son: Travis Andrew (Donna) Marshall of Watkinsville; grandchildren: Taylor Marshall and Camden Marshall; sister: Evelyn Brown of Watkinsville; nephew: Marty (Cindy Peck) Brown and stepson Corbett Carlton. Funeral service will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 2PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Burial will follow at Elder Cemetery, Highway 15, Watkinsville. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 at the funeral home on Thursday, October 25, 2018. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Elder Cemetery Fund, c/o Doyle Elder, 4180 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caretakers: Doris Simmons, Sarah Hull and Cindy Peck. Lord & Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
