James Thomas Kiney, age 92, of Winterville, Georgia, passed away on January 16, 2017. Born in Trenton, New Jersey to parents William A. Kiney and Elizabeth O'Donovan, Jim was one of four children. Preceding him in death are his parents, brother William Kiney, sister Marie Daly, brother Joseph Kiney and son Peter Vignes Kiney. Jim is survived by children Kathy Borcsik, Carol Palmer, Laurie (Neil) Lown, Patrick (Sally) Kiney, Maureen (Rick) Tessari, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
Jim served in World War II with Company B, 261st Infantry, 65th Division of the 3rd Army under General Patton in the European Theater. Jim was often a guest speaker at various venues regarding history and personal accounts of World War II. He enjoyed many things in life but none as much as his family and friends. His hobbies over the years included dancing, playing the guitar, writing short stories, poems and songs, reading, woodworking, traveling, coaching, calling square dancing ,dressing as a clown and performing magic, volunteering as a fireman, avidly collecting music recordings, and being a proud Irishman.
Memorial Services are Friday January 20, 2017 4:00pm at The UGA Catholic Center, 1344 S Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30605.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations (online) to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) or the Catholic Center at UGA.
