James Edward Geeter

January 28, 1971 — August 11, 2024

Hull, GA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Geeter, fondly known as “The Geet”, who departed from this world on August 11, 2024, at the age of 53 in St. Mary’s Hospital. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be held close to the hearts of his family and friends.

James was born in Madison, Georgia. He was a 1990 graduate of Clarke County High School and received a Bachelor of Science: Mathematics Education from The University of Georgia in 1993. James began working while still in high school at Winn-Dixie. He worked as a security guard at Georgia Square Mall while attending The University of Georgia. In 1999, James went to work for Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities as a Meter Reader until 2003, when he transferred to the Water Reclamation Department in Athens-Clarke County and worked until present. During his time as a Water Reclamation Operator (holding a Class 1 license), he progressed to become a Shift Lead, Interim Plant Supervisor, and Plant Supervisor. In the early 2000s, James worked for Midwest Weather as a Weather Observer at Athens Ben Epps Airport as well.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Nola Stephens Geeter, who stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing in his joys and sorrows. James and Nola shared a love of animals and cars which brought great joy to their lives. He was the cherished son of Sylvia and Phillip McCart and Dwight and Deborah Geeter. His sisters, Laura Bullock and Tara (Chris) Madden and his brother Vernon Keith, along with his niece, Kimberly (Hal) Cotter, and nephews Sebastian and Oliver Madden and Tanner Keith were also dear to his heart, adding joy and love to his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved nephew Casey Massey.

Known for his passion for cars and collecting keepsake firearms, James found joy and fulfillment in these hobbies. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he shared his interests and knowledge with others, leaving a lasting impression on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

James became an amateur radio operator when he received his “ham” license in 2000. He enjoyed many ours talking with his new friends he met through the hobby and participating in training and radio drills in the Athens Radio Club and Clarke County ARES. On Sunday night, KG4CWA became a silent key.

While we mourn the loss of James Edward Geeter, (The Geet) let us also celebrate the life he lived and the impact he had on those around him. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength during this difficult time. Rest in peace, dear James. You will be greatly missed, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
