James Everett "Jim" Smith, 84, died May 23, 2009.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late C. A. and Corrie Venable Smith, and the widower of Mary Grace Young Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. In 1989, he retired from General Motors after more than thirty years of employment and returned to Madison County to live.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, Danielsville with Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Cemetery.
Survivors include two children, Donna Durham of Conyers and Buddy Smith of Covington; sister, Blanche Wilkins of Oglethorpe County; brothers, Bob Smith and Gaines Smith, both of Madison County; three grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Kelly Smith and Greg of Smith, all of Anderson, SC; three great grandchildren, Samantha Durham and Chance Durham, both of Snellville, Bryson Smith of Anderson, SC; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. Anyone may view Mr. Smith Monday after 11:00 AM.
Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements.
