James Christopher Elkins Jr., Jim to family and friends, departed his earthly home on March 16th, 2023 at the age of 69.
Jim was born in May 1953 to James and Mary (Sue) Elkins in Waco, TX, joining sisters Wanda and Janet. His father’s work with the United States Air Force eventually brought the family to Warner Robins, GA.
After attaining his college Specialist degree, Jim spent his career as a school psychologist, working to mentor and assist children in the Houston County School System.
In 1981, Jim married Cindy Shank, and over the next few years they welcomed their two children, Christopher and Becky.
Jim found great joy in serving his Lord Jesus. He and Cindy enjoyed serving in youth ministry and singing in the church choir at Shirley Hills Baptist Church for over 20 years. He also served in prison ministry for many years.
In later years, Jim and Cindy welcomed daughter-in-law Samantha, and son-in-law Blaine, as well as beloved grandchildren Tabitha, Levi, Luke, Olivia, Henry and Violet. In 2017, Jim and Cindy moved to Watkinsville, GA to be near their grandchildren.
Some of Jim’s hobbies included church softball, fishing, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. He was delighted to pass on those joys to his children and grandchildren.
Knowing Jim meant you knew a true gentleman. He always stayed true to his nature to love others, share a smile, and join in song. He was a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Agape Hospice for their loving care at the end of Jim’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to any of the following of Jim’s favorite charities: Samaritan’s Purse, the Bill Glass Behind The Walls Prison Ministry
or The Gideons Ministry.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11AM at Oconee Chapel, 2370 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, GA. Interment will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
