James Luther Drake, 83, from Carlton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013. He was the son of the late Aldean and Addie Drake. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished his family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene; his children, Mary Jean, James Edward and Randy; his sisters, Azalea Kidd, Mary Hulsey, and Jessie Mae Fleeman. Survivors in addition to his wife, Rebecca, include his son, Buddy Childs (Pam); daughter, Shirley McIntyre (Steve); grandchildren, Jeremy Williams (Monica), Ashley Tolbert (Christopher), Jacob McIntyre, Michael Wilson and Chris Wilson; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Ella Williams, William Scott, Emmett, Ashley, Alexis and Autumn Wilson; many nieces and nephews, as well as many other loved ones.
James was a farmer and raised chickens for 46 years and was the owner/operator of The Gospel Tabernacle in Carlton, Georgia, where monthly gospel singings were held. He loved music, especially Bluegrass Gospel, and played with several music groups over his 67 years in music. He still traveled to many festivals and played his guitar and sang until his passing.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 29, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 11:00 am at the Lord and Stephens Danielsville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carlton Volunteer Fire Department.
