James Paul Burroughs

September 17, 1920 — December 2, 2011

James Paul Burroughs of 5821 Colbert- Danielsville Rd., died Friday,
December 2, 2011. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Burroughs was
the son of the late Marvin and Leo Cooper Burroughs. He was preceded in death by
his wife of seventy years, Roberta Burroughs, a sister, Willie Mae Threlkeld of Paoli
and a brother, Ralph Burroughs of Tucker.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Reba Moon of Colbert, nieces: Carol Lowe of Atlanta, Janice Threlkeld of Canton, Tammy Strickland (Keith) of Colbert, nephews: Billy Threlkeld (Imogene) of Milledgeville, Joe Threlkeld (Suzie) of Chilhowie, VA, David Burroughs (Laurie) of Lawrenceville, Dennis Moon (Brenda) of Colbert, Mitch Moon of Danielsville, Ken Whitehead (Linda) of Comer, Donald Whitehead (Rita) of Comer, Lanier Whitehead (Barbara) of Bogart, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
He was a retired Postmaster after serving 26 years and a member of the Jackson EMC Board of Directors for 35 years. He was a member of Colbert Baptist Church where he served as deacon and teacher of the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Burroughs was an active member of the Colbert Lions Club and the Retired Postmasters, "Hasbeens". He served in World War II and received the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice to his country. He loved life and will be remembered by all that knew him for his jovial personality.

Funeral services will be Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Colbert Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Wilson, officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00-8:00 pm. at the funeral home. Internment will be Colbert Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Burroughs, Brad Moon, Russ Moon, Ben Strickland, Billy Threlkeld, and Joe Threlkeld. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Colbert Lions Club, members of the Jackson EMC Board of Directors, and the Retired Postmasters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colbert Baptist Church Building Fund.
Lord and Stephens, Danielsville is in charge of arrangements.
