James Michael Brown, cherished husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the age of 70.
Born in Decatur, Illinois, he was a son of James Brown of Decatur, Illinois and the late Thelma Herzog. Mr. Brown was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War and he was a Ministerial Servant at the Winterville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, especially with his special fishing partners, Rockney and Thaddeus. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Fran Brown; sister, Pam Brown; son, Christopher O’Neal Strickland and daughters, Ruth Herrington and Lindsey Whitis.
Survivors in addition to his father include his wife, Cathy Brown; sons, Curtis Brown (Melissa), Michael Brown and Dennis Whitis (Karina); daughter, Amy Brown Crowe (Travis); sisters, Deena Firehammer (Mark) and Sherrie Graves; grandchildren, Eli Strickland, Matthew Whitis, Charlotte Whitis, Kayla Brown, Shelby Brown and Wyatt Brown as well as too many family and friends to mention.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Bates-Smith Cemetery on Whitehall Road and can be viewed on Zoom using meeting ID 953 623 6505 and password 662 547. Masks and social distancing are required.
