Athens - Mr. Jacob George Schnabel, Jr., son of Jacob George Schnabel, Sr. and Matilda Meyer Schnabel of Brooklyn, New York, resided in Athens, Georgia. Mr. Schnabel died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Athens Regional Medical Center of Athens after a long illness. Born in Valley Stream, New York April 22, 1925, Mr. Schnabel was a United States Navy World War Veteran. He was a member of the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department and a member starting Hook and Ladder Company 2 achieving the rank of Lieutenant before leaving. He was employed at Grumman Aerospace Corporation of Bethpage, New York as a demonstration Corporate Pilot and later at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation of Savannah, Georgia in the Sales Department as Captain Pilot and Northeast Regional Vice President. At Falcon Jet Corporation he was the Executive Assistant and Manager of the FBO in Teterboro, New Jersey. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Quiet Birdman Society, Tau Kappa Epsilon and the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Georgia.
Mr. Schnabel is survived by his wife, Flonnace M. Schnabel, son Jacob G. Schnabel III of Grand Ledge, Michigan, two stepsons, Chris K. Hinely of Pompton Lakes, NJ and Ed Hinely, wife Kelly Hinely, two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Regan Hinely and deceased brother, William J. Schnabel of S. Euclid, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2005 at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Athens with Rev. Andrew Cooke officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Sunday 9/25/2005 at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Burial will be private.
