Jack Clement Milsted, age 86, died in Athens, GA on January 8, 2012.
Born January 6, 1926 in Alexandria, LA, to Ernest Clement Milsted and Laura Bludworth. He graduated from Warren Eastern High School in New Orleans Louisiana in 1942. Jack served in the Merchant Marines through World War II as an Able Bodied Seaman. At the conclusion of the war, he was commissioned as an Ensign and continued his sea career as an officer with Lykes Lines until his retirement in 1966.
Jack grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and lived in New Iberia, Lafayette, and Houma, Louisiana as well as Memphis, TN, Oxford, MS and Athens, GA. Jack owned and operated an oil field crew boat business off the coast of Louisiana and then worked as a water conditioning consultant in Lafayette and Houma Louisiana until retiring in the early 1990s.
Jack was a sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cloar Milsted, of Athens, GA; his daughters, Dana Heil, of Athens, and Renee Milsted, of Fredericksburg, VA; and two grandchildren, Jack and Eli Heil, of Athens. He is also survived by his sister, Edwina Yakupzack, of Houma, Louisiana, and several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathi Towry and brother William Milsted.
A private service will be held in the near future.
