Jack William Fambrough of Watkinsville, Georgia died peacefully at home on Friday, May 4, 2012. Mr. Fambrough was born February 18th, 1932 in Oconee County to Jim Lumpkin and Grace Wilhite Fambrough. After attending Rose Hill Elementary School, he graduated from Watkinsville High School. Jack enjoyed his school years and participated in a number of sports. In 1954 he served his country in the Korean War where he received the National Defense Service Medal along with the Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning home, he faithfully served the State of Georgia Department of Transportation for thirty years as project engineer. During his years there, he oversaw projects on Indian Trail Road, I-85 Interchange, and numerous other projects.
After retiring from the Department of Transportation, he began a second career spanning 20 years with the Department of the Navy where he received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for exemplary service.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Wilson Fambrough, daughters, Nan Dean, Kay (Fletcher Law), Patti (Jeff Faulkner) and son Jim (Marcie) Fambrough. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Dean, Graham Law, Nick and Claxton Faulkner, Chloe and Olivia Fambrough, and three great-grandchildren, Christian Troy Dean, Abigail Grace Dean, and Alyssa Spradlin.
A memorial service will be held at Antioch Christian Church, Watkinsville at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Antioch Christian Church for the Gideon's Ministry or ACTS . Lord and Stephens, WEST is in charge of arrangements.
