Jack A Bishop

March 8, 1930 — January 17, 2025

Hull, GA

Jack A. Bishop was welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 17, 2025.

In Lawrenceville, Georgia, he arrived as the tenth child to Melvin Stephen Bishop and Leila Martha King Bishop on Saturday, March 8, 1930. He has joined his son Micheal and granddaughter Tamara and grandson Michael, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathy in Heaven.

As a young teenager he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and tried his best to walk his faith daily. His faithful service and involvement in his local church wherever he lived is part of his legacy.

He met the love of his life in Apalachee, Georgia after a hard day of work. Marie Moon had heard about this tall good looking young man whom she married in the Methodist parsonage on Sunday, August 3, 1952 before church services. That afternoon they moved to Bamburg, South Carolina where Jack worked in the bomb plant to begin their marriage of over 72 years.

Within the next year he and Marie were blessed with a son and another son the next year. Then they were blessed with two daughters who joined their family five and seven years later.

After getting married and having a family so quickly Jack and Marie both worked at expanding their education. He attended Athens Technical School earning certificates in engineering. Later even teaching a few classes at the same school.

He held more than one patent in his fabrication of machines and tools. He never really retired even after selling his business Colbert Fabricators, just last February he was rebuilding a motor to run a hydraulic lift. Although he was very modest about his abilities, many folks would marvel at his talents saying things like “he’s the smartest man I know.”

He used his many talents to help others. Even as a youngster he was working on neighbors’ cars and for many years he would come to the aide of anyone who asked for help in building or repairs.

He loved to go fishing. Our family has many stories of fishing trips of which almost none of the stories are tall tales. His time on the water enjoying God’s creation was often restorative for him. Additionally, he loved to grow flowers and vegetables which he was pleased to share.

Although he would be the first to say he was not perfect by far he would want anyone to know that life is better as a Christian even through the storms. Being a Gideon and the fellowship he found within the Gideons was faith-building for him.

If any of us ever called for help, he was there for you even helping with needs you weren’t aware you had. Foremost, Jack wanted his family and loved ones to know the Lord. One of his prayers in December was asking for his family to remain together.

After his ninety-four plus years he leaves many who will cherish their memories including the love of his life, Marie and son David and daughter Faith and son-in-law Tripp and daughter Patricia and son-in-law Larry and daughter-in-law Priscilla. His grandchildren including Scott, Robert, John and Joshua and Toby, Audrey, Sarah, and Angela. His great-grandchildren include Guinevere, Jude, Tatum, Michaela, Maddie, Lily-Marie, Rose-Annette and Violet-Eve.

His many nephews and nieces were held dear to his heart and they will miss his greatly.
