J. Swanton Ivy, Jr., 82, died June 8, 2015. A lifelong resident of Oconee County, GA, he was the son of the late J. Swanton Ivy, Sr. and Emma Plunket Ivy. His sister Anne Giddens Howell preceded him in death.
Mr. Ivy was a graduate of Darlington School and the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was affiliated with truck and auto sales with his father for over thirty years, many of which as co-owner of J. Swanton Ivy Chrysler Dodge and Ivy Truck Sales. He had a passion for aviation and was a licensed pilot. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a charter member and past president of the Athens Area Model Airplane Club. Mr. Ivy was a charter member and elder of Friendship Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Men of the Church. He was also a founding member of the original Boy Scout troop at Friendship Presbyterian Church. Later in life, Mr. Ivy was integral in real estate development in Friendship community, serving as president of Rockinwood, Inc. He was a former member of the Athens Touchdown Club and was a lifetime UGA football season ticket holder. He also enjoyed his coffee club with friends almost daily.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at Friendship Presbyterian Church with a memorial service immediately following with the Rev. Tara Bulger officiating.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Pattie Wynn Ivy; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Holly Ivy and David and Amy Ivy; grandchildren, Austin, Ben, Wynn and Maggie; several nephews, nieces and cousins. Other survivors include his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and John Hall, stepmother, Bert L. Ivy, stepbrother Richard Montgomery and his wife Evelyn, stepsister Anne Lee and her husband Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Presbyterian Church, 8531 Macon Hwy., Athens, GA 30606.
