Ila Turner McDonald, age 91 of Athens, passed away Sunday, November 04, 2012 following a period of declining health.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Greene County, GA on November 08, 1920 to George Henry and Francis Dye Turner. Mrs. McDonald worked for many years in the insurance industry as a claims director, but she will be remembered most of all for her skills as an artist as well for her sewing and cooking. She will always be known as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mrs. McDonald is preceded in death by her husband William Albert McDonald and great grandson Nicholas Michael Simmons. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gordon Lill, Huntsville AL; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Janis McDonald, Athens GA; sisters Sara Dreyer, Helen Dixon, and Bertha Turner; grandchildren Teresa and Michael Simmons; Bailey and Daniel Cheek; and great granddaughter Katelyn Michele Simmons.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Donny Whitehead officiating. Interment will be held at Athens Memory Gardens. Members of the Jesters Band will serves as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Tuckston United Methodist Church.
