Athens, GA - Hoyt Nathaniel Fowler, Sr., 86, died July 15, 2009.
Born in Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late William Hoyt and Francina Couch Fowler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Haines Fowler, daughter, Robin Elaine Fowler and sisters, Myrtis Clary and Frances New. Mr. Fowler was retired from the United States Army where he served in Europe during WW II. Following his military service, he retired from the University of Georgia as Supply Manager of Central Supply. Mr. Fowler was a longtime member of Athens Lions Club and a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church. Mr. Fowler was active with the Beech Haven Baptist Church Young at Heart, Prince Avenue Baptist Church XYZ and the Georgia Square "Mall Walkers."
Survivors include his children, Phyllis Fowler Boyles and her husband Bill of Tallahassee, FL, Patricia J. Fowler of Athens and Hoyt N. Fowler, Jr. "Skip" and his wife, Tammie of Fernandina Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart B. Simms, Jr. and Dr. James N. Griffith officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church Library Fund or St. Mary's Hospice House.
