Howard Ernest "Sammy" Tucker

Howard Ernest "Sammy" Tucker, 88, of Athens, died on September 16, 2012.
Born in Winterville, he was the son of the late Lonnie Mell and Susie Casey Tucker, and was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Lord Tucker. Mr. Tucker was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was a longtime member of Hull Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon. He was retired from John Deere.
Survivors include his children, Joyce (Ed) Nelms, Peggy (Roger) Thrasher, Buddy (Faye) Tucker, and Barbara (David) Berrong; brothers, Johnny Tucker and Billy (Catherine) Tucker; grandchildren, Jan Bales, Phil Thrasher, Robbie Nelms, Michael Nelms, Marty Tucker, Sonya Davis, Dwayne Berrong, and Don Berrong; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, at Hull Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will be in Collier Baptist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers; granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
