Bogart, GA - Howard B. Hellums, 74, died June 17, 2008.
A native of Osage, Iowa, he was a son of the late Mona Miller and Floyd Merle Hellums. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Merle Gene Hellums and two sisters, Arlene Hellums Gentry and Correne Hellums Stephens.
Mr. Hellums was employed with McGregor Company in Athens, GA until 1989 when he started his own business which specialized in classroom and auditorium seating. He was also an income tax preparer for over fifty years, retiring this January. Mr. Hellums was a very active member of Bethabara Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for over forty-five years and was on the Deacon's board.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 20, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Bethabara Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Bray, Rev. Don Fuller and Mr. Andy Crowe officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Katherine Crowe Hellums; daughter, Marsha Hellums Lewallen and husband, Bill; three grandchildren, Will Lewallen, Matt Lewallen, and Abby Lewallen, all of Clarkesville, GA; sister, Carol Hellums Bowden of Cochran, GA; a number of nieces and one nephew.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethabara Baptist Church Building and Grounds Improvement Fund, 4651 Monroe Highway, Statham, GA 30666.
