Howard Lester Hammond

Howard Lester Hammond, 89, husband of 63 years to Barbara Ann Perry Hammond, died on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Born in Athens, GA, Howard was the son of Obie Carithers Hammond and Rosa Nell Kent Hammond, father to the late Stevie Hammond and was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. Howard retired from Westclox after 47 years and worked for the Oconee County Civic Center for 12 years. He was a member of New Life Apostolic Church, Watkinsville, GA. He was known for his gift as a musician playing the piano. Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter; LaRonda (Dean) Sutton; sisters: Irene O’Dillon, Sandra Pruitt, Ruth Wilson; grandchildren: Bradley Hammond, Brandy Hawkins, Jayce (Brianna) Sutton, Kayla (Josh) Arnold and Arellia (Jeremy) Mixon and great grandchildren: Summer, Peyton, Brock, Hudson, Stephanie and Brewer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12PM until 2PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Life Apostolic Church.
