Homer Daniel May “Dan”, 81, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Born on March 15, 1940 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Homer Jackson May and Marjorie Cooper May. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Alexander.
Words cannot describe the amount of love he had for his family. He championed all of their endeavors and exemplified unconditional love, strong work ethic, and trust in God. He loved celebrating the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Atlanta Braves with his family. Survivors include his wife, Pat May; children, Kim Atkins (Bruce), Kirk May (Laura), Jeff May (Laurie), Robin Morris, Terri Glenn (Lamar), Patti Dobbs (Marcus); brothers, Rusty May (Janet), Bob May (Terry), David May (Sue); grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick and Richard Hargraves III, Amie, Katherine and Danny May, Cameron May, Luke Brunson, Lauren Rose, Sarah Buckler, Thad and Bradley Glenn, Karlie, Chastin, Noel, and Noah Dobbs; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
Dan’s love for his Lord and Savior led him to a life of dedicated service. He graduated from Lima Senior High and Toccoa Falls Bible College. He was a minister of music, youth pastor, and pastor throughout his life. His teachings led countless people to the Lord. He challenged others to develop a relationship with Jesus, to seek him in every area of their lives, and to go out and tell others about Him. He had a heart for mission work and a passion for working with youth. Those he impacted have fond memories of youth retreats to Panama City and Gatlinburg, Teen Missions International, mission trips to Haiti, and his cooking at church camp.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Lord & Stephens West with Rev. Gordon Rhoden officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
