Hilda Gilmer Poss

Hilda Gilmer Poss, 88, of Winterville, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019.

A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, Hilda was the daughter of the late Austin Preston Gilmer and Lula Pulliam Gilmer. She retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service after 30 years. Hilda was a member of the Winterville United Methodist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Warren Poss, and her brother, Bobby Gilmer.

Hilda is survived by her two daughters, Elaine (Charles) McGarity of Winterville and Marsha (Jeff) Paul of Lexington; four grandchildren: Jay (Melissa) McGarity, Tim (Ashley) McGarity, Sarah (Stewart) Sanders, and Andy Paul; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 26, at 3:00 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Birthday Club and the Winterville United Methodist Friendship Sunday School class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winterville United Methodist Church.
