Athens - Lieutenant Colonel Heyward M. McAnallen passed away on December 01, 2011.
Born in Butler, PA on March 21, 1921 to the late Merle F. McAnallen and Hazel Wimer McAnallen, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marian E. McAnallen and two brothers Lawrence E. McAnallen and H. William McAnallen.
Joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1940, he was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii on December 07, 1941. He later served in North Africa and England. Following World War II he was stationed in Japan, Germany, and various bases in the United States. He retired in 1970 after thirty years of service.
He is survived by his son, Douglas H. McAnallen of State College, PA; his daughter, Deborah K. McAnallen of Athens, GA; his brother F. Victor McAnallen (Marian) of Hendersonville, NC; and his sister Mary Lou Lewis (L. Leroy) of Cabot, PA.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 09, 2011 at 2pm at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST. Revs. Doug Ivey and F. Victor McAnallen will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Internment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society .
