Herbert Franklin Cape , 80, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Athens Regional Medical Center .
A native of Oglethorpe County , he was the son of the late Olin C. and Lona Pethel Cape . Mr. Cape was the owner and operator of Cape Upholstery for 40 years. He was a very involved member of Winterville United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Friendship and Alders Gate Sunday School Classes. He was a member of Winterville City Council, the Planning and Zoning Board and former Mayor for the City of Winterville .
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Tac Coley and Rev. Dan Maxey officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Memory Gardens . Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Jo Jacobs Cape; children and their spouses: Fred and Mary Cape of Dewitt, NE, Margie and John Daly of Marietta, Frank and Karen Cape of Green Bay, WI, John and Cathy Cape of Winterville, Joyce Holder of Jefferson, Steve Cape of Winterville, Susan and Sixleth Rainmaker of Athens, eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 10, 2009 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flower memorials may be made to Winterville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
