Arnoldsville, GA - Henry Lewis Hammond, 80, passed away September 8, 2008.
A native of Greene County, GA, he was a son of the late Sarah Flem Bryan and Benjamin Bartemus Hammond. He was also preceded in death by his previous wife, Evelyn Hensley, his son, Bruce Andrew Hammond, brother, Edgar Hammond and sister, Jo Parker.
Mr. Hammond retired in 1992 from Richard Russell Research Center at the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. Mr. Hammond was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church for many years and will be remembered as a "Gentle, sweet man - always with a smile on his face".
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 11, 2008, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. Revs. Jonathan Tolbert and Nathan Palmer will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville, GA.
Survivors include his wife, Montine Kiser Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Richard Fuga of Cranberry, PA; stepchildren, Lynda E. Norman of Arnoldsville, GA, William Eberhart of Anchorage, AK, Debra Johnson of Brunswick, GA; sister, Rosa Bustin of Greensboro, GA; two grandchildren, Christopher Fuga and Elizabeth Fuga.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Glory Sunday School Class of Beech Haven Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 until service time.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
