Winterville - Henry Rudell Dudley, 90, of Winterville, died May 22, 2011. A native of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Izora Gertrude Adams and Henry Martin Dudley and was preceded in death by his first wife in 1996, Evelyne Ann Fields Dudley. Mr. Dudley was a member and former deacon of Arnoldsville Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He flew B24 Liberator planes in 50 missions and successfully returned from two missions where his aircraft went down. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24 at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, East. Interment will be in Arnoldsville Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Gillespie Dudley; son and daughter-in-law, Martin Ross (Pamela) Dudley of Winterville; daughter, Penni Ann Dudley of Decatur; sister-in-law, Clara Dudley of Athens; five stepchildren, Dennis Bryant of Elberton, Debbie Love of Winterville, Doyle Gillespie of Denver, Colo., Perry Gillespie and Travis Gillespie, both of Lexington; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Jessica Snow Dudley and Zachary Graham Dudley. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Arnoldsville Cemetery Association. Lord and Stephens, East, of Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
