Henry Elmo Carter, 89, of Colbert died Thursday, February 20, 2014. Henry was a lifelong resident of Madison County and had retired from Chicopee Mills. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Brantley Allen and Ina Belle Morris Carter; brothers, Howell Carter, Zeke Carter, O.B. Carter, Homer Carter, Brantley Carter, Jr.; and sister, Ina Mae Carter Meadow.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Blanche Fortson Carter; children, Brenda (Bob) Ward of Watkinsville, Pat (Jim) Pinckard of Colbert, and Regina (Phil) Benson of Danielsville; grandchildren, Kay (Rodney) Clifton of Comer, Chris (Jamie) Pinckard of Colbert, Kevin (Maggie) Ward of Bishop, and Kellie Ward of Athens; great-grandchildren, Maura Clifton, Lauren Clifton, Kasey Clifton, Sam Ward, Haley Ward, Myles Ward, and Caitlin Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville. Burial will follow in Colbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Kenny Meadow, Mitchell Meadow, Jim Meadow, Rodney Carter, Sonny Carter, and John Waggoner.
