Henry E. Amos, passed away peacefully on February 9th , 2017 surrounded by his wife and children.
Born August 20th, 1941 in Bowling Green, KY, he was the son of the late Henry Estill and Mary Ellen Davis Amos. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Davis Amos and Billy Thomas Amos. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a B.S. in agriculture in 1962. He received his doctorate from the University of Kentucky in May of 1964. He was employed at Western Kentucky as well as the USDA at Richard B. Russell Center before accepting a Research/Teaching position in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science with the University of Georgia. During his tenure at UGA, Dr. Amos served as the graduate advisor for 16 M.S. and PhD. students. Henry was an active member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, the Becomer's Sunday School Class, Clarke-Oconee Cattlemen's Association, UGA Aghon Society, and the American Animal/Dairy Science Association.
In April of 1969, Henry married Wanda Barlow of Bardstown, KY. They have two children: Stephen E. Amos and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Mariellen of Watkinsville, GA & Dawn M. Smrekar and her husband Jacob and their children, Christian and Victoria of Rock Hill, SC.
A celebration of Mr. Amos's life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2PM at Tuckston United Methodist Church. A reception will follow. Rev. James Mooneyhan and Rev. Bill Jackson officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
