Helen Lester Walls

Helen Lester Walls, 90, of Winterville, died Sunday, November 18, 2018.

She was a daughter of the late James Earl Lester and Ola Carter Lester. Mrs. Walls was a longtime member of Winterville United Methodist Church and The Red Hat Society.  Prior to her injury she lived at Athena Gardens in Athens and truly enjoyed her neighbors and all the activities.  She worked for 20 years at Southern Bell and eventually retired from St. Mary’s Hospital as the Switchboard Operator. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Edward Walls; siblings, Allen Clarke Lester, Stanley C. Lester, Joe N. Lester, Betty Ann Metcalf and Sarah Jean Cantrell.

Survivors include her children, Cindy Jane Walls, Comer, Sarah Ann Walls, Athens, Robert Earl Walls, Winterville; sister, Thelma Lester Morris, Colbert; sister-in-law, Betty Lester, Warner Robbins, and grandchildren, Rachael Walls, Matthew Walls, Taunton, Massachusetts, Emily Walls, Joseph Walls, Athens, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 23, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, East. Interment will follow the service at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 3:00 pm.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Walls’ longtime caregivers, Tammy Ennis Howard and Amanda Rosemond.
