Helen “Clarice” Pilcher, 85, passed away quietly on April 24, 2024, with family at her side.
Born May 15, 1938, in Taylor County, GA to Charles Cline Giles, Sr and Iris Vera Theus, she was the youngest of two children. On July 8, 1956, she married Wendall “Wayne” Pilcher, the love of her life, who she was devoted to for 66 years. She retired from the University of Georgia as a receptionist (Geology and Political Science) and afterwards worked in support of the family real estate brokerage company, PRI. However, her truest devotion was to serve God and her family. She was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church until 1972 when she followed her husband to Winterville where they farmed and continued to raise their children. She joined Winterville First Baptist Church where she continued to be active and passionate as she served God, answered needs with a giving and loving heart through Sunday school, nursery care, Eastern Star, and community outreach. She was uniquely blessed with the ability to show humor and love that was unconditional and divinely inspired. Those that experienced her kindness, her gentle touch, her look of approval, and Godly spirit know that she is reunited in heaven with family. Through her loving nature, she taught us that love conquers all, forgiveness is easy and that we are fearless as we live knowing that Jesus is our savior. Her moments with family and friends were filled with true joy in the deepest sense of love and kindness.
Along with her parents, Clarice was predeceased by her husband, Wendall Wayne Pilcher, her brother, Charles Cline Giles, Jr., and her oldest son, Kenneth Wayne Pilcher who died tragically at age 27 in 1986. Her faith and perseverance during adversity was an inspiration to others and testament in trusting the goodness of God’s plan. She is survived by her loving son Stephen Lamar Pilcher and his wife Bridget Anne; grandchildren Matthew Lamar and wife Brianna (great-granddaughter Raegan Ann), Lindsay Anne and husband Aaron Hinman, Nathanael Lee, active-duty regular Army, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Winterville First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Winterville First Baptist Church.
