Athens - Helen Elizabeth Woods Norton, 90, of Athens, died October 24, 2006.
A lifelong resident of Athens, she was the daughter of the late Albon Young Woods and Ruth Iverson Woods and was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Norton and their daughter, Dr. Virginia Norton. She was educated at Athens City Schools and the University of Georgia. On April 17, 1937 she became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Elijah Clarke Chapter, serving longer than any other member, also a life long member of the Athens Garden Club where she served as president for two years. Mrs. Norton was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was very active in her church and all civic affairs in earlier years.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Betty Ruth Norton of North Miami, FL; sister in law, Carolyn Norton Bowen of Thomaston; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Albon Young Woods, III, David Warren Woods and his wife Kim, Dan Hall Norton, Jr., and his wife Gloria, Myra Norton Martin and her husband Douglas M., William Charles Bowen, II, and his wife Delaine, Dr. David Bowen and his wife Billie, Judith Bowen Mandeville and her husband John, eleven great nieces and nephews, and three great great nieces.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Glenn Doak officiating. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Athens, GA.
