Helen McGalliard

Helen McGalliard, 96, of Bogart, GA went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2025. Helen was born in Athens, GA and later resided in Bogart. She was the daughter of the late Pat Dillard and Lena Dillard. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles McGalliard; son in laws, Johnny Adkins and Robert Hale; and siblings, Louise Wallace, Lillian Dixon, and Frank Dillard.

Helen is survived by her children: Deborah Adkins and Elaine Hale; grandchildren: Rob Hale (Donna), Amy West, Jennifer Dempsey (Jason), and Jeff Adkins; great grandchildren: Brittany Plassman, Kimberly Hale, Zach Hale, Sam West, Emily West, Claire Dempsey, and Tanner Dempsey; and six great-great grandchildren.

Helen worked faithfully by her husband’s side as a bookkeeper for many years at their machine shop, McGalliard Engine Rebuilders. She later worked with her daughter, Elaine at Live Oak Morning School, where she found enjoyment in taking care of the babies. She was a long-time member of Whitehall Baptist church and loved her friends there. She was a member of the Athens Antique Car Club, where she enjoyed attending car shows. She also savored the time spent at Daytona Beach with loved ones. Affectionately known as Nanny, she kept her grandkids and great grandkids as long as she was able. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on the porch and visiting with family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Connie Tippet, a very dear friend of Helen’s who assisted in caring for her as her hospice nurse. Thanks also to Sandy Sosbee who helped the family out many times with different tasks.

A graveside service will take place at Oconee Memorial Park, 2370 Hog Mountain Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30677, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 starting at 11 AM with Bryan Barrett officiating.
