Helene Eddye Keller Hooten, 72, a retired teacher at Gaines School Elementary and PBX operator at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, died suddenly of natural causes on Monday, June 13. She was born August 30, 1943 in Scottsboro, Alabama to the late Marie Sparks and James Eddie Keller. Helene grew up in Hollywood, Alabama and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. She loved arts & crafts, gardening and spoiling her dogs. In addition to her beloved husband of 36 years, John Edward Hooten, Helene is survived by three children: Teresa Penley Sheppard of Brookhaven, Georgia; Stephan Lyall Penley of Atlanta, Georgia; Jennifer Marie Hooten of Athens, Georgia; 5 grandchildren Keller, Erin, Lyall, Abbey and Parker; her siblings Robert (Sudie), Charles (Marcia), Joe (Gladys), Steve (Sheila), Doug (Kim) and Mark (Lynne). A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 26 at 2 pm central at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Dutton, Alabama.
